Clubs

Van Wert High School offers many different areas of interest in which students can get involved. Students are encouraged to enjoy their high school years by being active in these organizations in order to contribute to their school and community. BETA CLUB

Advisors: Mrs. Roehm and Mrs. Lewis

Students must have a 3.3 GPA at the end of their first semester of their 9th grade year to be a member of this club. There is an application process and dues are $15. Students are required to participate in a service project, attend meetings and may attend the Beta State Convention in the spring.


DRAMA CLUB (MASQUE AND GAVEL)

Advisor: Ms. Melissa Bloomfield

This is an extracurricular club open to students in grades 9-12. Members need to be a part of the school theatre productions as an actor or a crew member. There is a fall play in November and Spring Musical in April. Club dues are $20.


FCCLA (FAMILY CAREER AND COMMUNITY LEADERS OF AMERICA)

Advisor: Ms. Lynda Ragan

Eligible students have to be enrolled in or have completed Family and Consumer Science class in middle school or high school. Dues are $13. Activities may include fundraisers, district and regional rallies, service projects and possible state and national competitions in Family and Consumer Science activities.


GERMAN CLUB

Advisor: Mr. Gene Aufderhaar

German Club is an opportunity for students enrolled in German across grade levels to get together and revel in Germanic culture! German clubbers: commemorate Oktoberfest and the Berlin Wall fall anniversary; celebrate Karneval (Mardi Gras); carol in the building at Christmas; and hold a birthday bash for Albert Einstein. Viel Spass! (Lots of fun!)


NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY

Advisor: Mrs. Natoshia Wilhelm

To be a National Honor Society member the requirement is a 3.6 GPA at the end of sophomore year. The induction banquet is held during the fall of the student's junior or senior year. Requirements for selection include community or club service with four or more agencies and a teacher evaluation. 


ROBOTICS CLUB

Advisors: Mr. Bob Spath and Mr. Zane McElroy

Open to all students enrolled in Project Lead The Way engineering classes. Students engage in designing, building, and programming a robot to compete in a given challenge. This club meets after school November through April and students participate in state, regional, national, and world competitions through FIRST Tech.

SCHOLASTIC BOWL

Advisor: Mr. Kraner

Open to all students interested in competing in scholastic bowl tournaments. Activities include practices on Monday or Tuesday evenings and various competitions against schools in Ohio.


SERVICE PACK

Advisor: Mr. Dettrow

This club is sponsored by the Van Wert Service Club and is open to all students in grades 9-12. Requirements include $12 per year for dues and 12 hours of community service to be completed throughout the school year. Members are expected to attend announced meetings during PAWS. Students work with the Red Cross, YMCA, YWCA, and sponsor the Cookies for Kids programs.


SPANISH CLUB

Advisor: Mrs. Khandiss Klinger

Spanish Club is open to all students enrolled in Spanish classes. There is a required dues of $2 and students can purchase t-shirts for an additional cost. Activities include hosting the Justo Llamas concert, Dia de los Muertos Fiesta, participating in field trips, and attending club meetings held during PAWS.


STUDENT COUNCIL

Advisors: Mrs. Katie Bowersock and Mrs. Judy Krites

Student Council is an active organization made up of class officers and representatives elected by their classmates. They work to improve the school environment and act as a liaison between students and administration. Students are involved in blood drives, food drives, and Goodwill Games.


VARSITY CLUB

Advisor: Mr. Charlie Witten

This club is open to students who have earned a varsity letter at Van Wert High School. Activities include running the coat check at basketball games.
