Varsity Tutors Monthly Scholarship Contest



They hold monthly $200 scholarship contest where students write an essay in response to a monthly question.

AFSA American Fire Sprinkler Association scholarship – they have two – one in September and one in in February – be sure to do both!!!!!!

AES Scholarship

Submit a 500-1,000 word essay regarding, “When you look back on your life in 30 years, what it would take for you to consider your life successful? What relationships or accomplishments will be important on this journey?” You do not have to be an engineering student to apply.

2 students will be selected monthly, judging based on community service, work experience, honors and awards, leadership & extracurricular activities, must write essay up to 400 words, provide 1 or 2 letters of recommendation.  Turn applications in to Student Services.

Heisman High School Scholarship

Up to $10,000

(100 awarded)

Must have a 3.0 GPA, participate in one of 47 recognized high school sports, participate in volunteer service, community involvement or school leadership.

Veterans of Foreign War (VFW) Voice of Democracy Scholarship

Ranges from $1,000 to $30,000

Write and record an essay on, “What are the greatest attributes of our Democracy?”  Judging based on originality, content and delivery

Zombie Apocalypse Scholarship

250 word essay, “Image that your high school has been overrun with zombies. Everyone has joined the walking dead.  Flesh out a plan to avoid the zombies, including where you’d hide and the top-five things you’d bring to stay alive.”

Hispanic Heritage Youth Award

Up to $1,000

Must be of Hispanic heritage, 3.0 GPA, must attend virtual awards ceremony if selected

National Elks Most Valuable Student Scholarship

Nov. 13, 2023

Ranges from $4,000 to $30,000

Applicants will be judged on scholarship, leadership and financial need.  500 scholarships will be awarded

Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Scholarship

Nov. 16, 2023

Up to $55,000 (Up to 100 awarded)

Must have 3.5 GPA, demonstrate financial need, demonstrate persistence, leadership and service to others

Driver Education Initiative Scholarship

Nov. 30, 2023


Must write an essay titled, “In the driver’s seat”, discussing the importance of being a safe and educated driver. Should be 750 words or more

National Honor Society (NHS) Scholarship

$3,200-$25,000 (600 to be awarded)

Must be a senior member of an active NHS chapter, create student account, need 2 recommendations, certification by NHS advisor

Hagan Scholarship Foundation


Dec. 1, 2023

Up to $60,000 over 4 years (up to 1,000 to be awarded)

3.50 GPA, must work 240 hours in the 7  months prior to the start of college, adjusted gross household income of less than $85,000

Barbara Lotze Scholarship for future Physics Teachers

Up to $12,000 (several awarded)

Must be planning to pursue a career in teaching high school physics.  Need letters of recommendations and essay

Bonnie Eddy Educational Supply and Book Grant (BEES-BG)

Must plan to major in education. 2.5 GPA, demonstrate potential as an educational leader. Need 2 letters of recommendation, essay and transcript
